It’s summertime, and you know what that means! Family road trips, summer vacation, beach days, summer reading challenges, and hopefully lots of time to sit around and read a good book. We at the Topsfield Library want to make sure that our patrons know that if you don’t have time to sit and read this summer, you can still enjoy books while you are doing, well, pretty much anything! June is Audiobook Appreciation Month and listening to audiobooks counts as reading! Same story, different format, it counts.
The Topsfield Library has a lot of options for you if you are looking to get into audiobooks, which are great for a long commute, motivating you to clean or go for a long walk, an excellent option for kids who have a hard time reading on their own or are learning to read (check out the audiobook and physical book at the same time and have them follow along!), and are fantastic for people who have difficulty with their vision and can no longer read physical books. We have audiobooks on CD, Playaway (a self-contained MP3 player), and e-audiobooks through our app, Libby, where you can listen right through your phone or tablet. We even have personal CD players, cords to hook your equipment up to your car, and a boom box to borrow to make our collection more accessible!
Plus, if you use the Libby App to borrow your e-audiobooks, you can adjust the reading speed, set a sleep timer, create collections of books you want to read, and more!
Did you know?
The Topsfield Library partners with other library consortiums through Libby to offer you even MORE audiobooks! If the MVLC doesn’t have the book you are looking for, try searching a neighboring library consortium (NOBLE, CLAMS, Minuteman, etc.) add your library card to their system right through the Libby app, and you can have access to all of their e-materials as well! Plus, if you are a resident of Massachusetts, you can get a virtual Boston Public Library card for free and access their enormous collection of virtual materials and online resources. Not sure how to get started? Make a tech appointment with our Reference Desk, bring your device, and we can walk you through it.
If you’re looking for some great audiobook recommendations, the Topsfield Library staff have a few to get you started. See the list below, and be sure to ask the staff when you come in for more recommendations.
