On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, United States, and Canada. In Topsfield, Massachusetts, at its peak, 93.5% of the sun will be covered by this eclipse (at 3:29pm)! Northern New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine is within the path of totality.

In order to safely view an eclipse, you must use eclipse glasses. Lucky for you, the Topsfield Town Library has your back! We will have eclipse glasses available at the Topsfield Town Library! Pick yours up for FREE beginning Tuesday, April 2 at 10:00 AM during our open hours. Supplies are limited, so please only take what you need! A special thanks to a grant from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, the NASA @ My Library Project, and the Space Science Institute’s STAR NET team. ***NOTE GLASSES NO LONGER AVAILABLE AS OF 4/4/2024!***

We recommend taking in this sight if you are able; the next total solar eclipse viewable in the contiguous United States in 2044!

Safety First!

Viewing any part of the bright Sun through a camera lens, binoculars, or a telescope without a special-purpose solar filter secured over the front of the optics will instantly cause severe eye injury. Do NOT use eclipse glasses or handheld viewers with cameras, binoculars, or telescopes. Those require different types of solar filters. For more information on the solar eclipse and viewing safety, visit the NASA webpage.
