One of our displays this month on the second floor of the library features items purchased with funds from the Topsfield Library Art Committee via the Gould Trust over the past twelve months, with the goal of bolstering our already high-quality arts and crafts book selection in the library. A special thank you to the Committee and its members for making sure we have a collection of items in the arts that informs, inspires, and sparks the creative juices of the Topsfield community.
The Topsfield Library Art Committee is a group of local citizens, appointed by the Library Board of Trustees, with an interest in the arts that make recommendations that will enrich the artistic offerings and aesthetic environment of the library and grounds. Suggestions will be made for both purchase and display of materials, and will include (but not be limited to) paintings, prints, sculpture, photographs, and mixed media. This charge is supported by the Gould Trust Fund, whose goals are to inspire, to educate, to promote cultural enrichment and diversity, and to help preserve the holdings of the library. Among the responsibilities of this group is to select artists for our Activity Room exhibitions, help curate our expanding art collection, and encourage interactions, contemplation, and discussion of art in the community. The Temporary Sculpture Exhibition on our front lawn is an example of the dedicated work of this committee!

From its earliest days, the Topsfield Town Library has been dedicated to supporting the arts in many forms to enrich the cultural life of Topsfield. We are extremely lucky to host a quality art collection, featuring paintings, murals, and other works from local artists and well-established artists. From its earliest days, the Library has been dedicated to supporting the arts in many forms to enrich the cultural life of Topsfield. We continue to strive towards the mission laid out by benefactor George L. Gould that the Library is a “cultural center promoting the aesthetic in the lives of Topsfield residents.”
